Police Save Residents From Burning Building

Three people were saved from their burning house by a passing police patrol car in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fire broke out at a the wooden house in Torsås near Kalmar. After raising the alarm, the two officers went into the house and saved three people including an elderly man with hearing difficulties. The building contained five flats. Several people were taken to hospital, including one of the police officers, suffering from smoke inhalation.

Police later arrested a person who was in the area.

Meanwhile, police evacuated a burning apartment building in the exclusive Östermalm area of Stockholm on Sunday morning. Several buildings nearby were also evacuated after firecrews discovered a gas leak. Five people were taken to hospital. The blaze is now under control.
