Ecological Farming On The Rise
More and more farmers are converting their lands into ecological farms, Swedish ecological food control organization Krav says. According to its latest market report, 71 percent more farmers decided to switch from conventional farming to ecological farming in 2009.
“The consumers are buying more and that signals better profits to farmers,” Krav’s marketing manager, Pia Högström, told news bureau TT.
The market for ecological food is still small, however, even if it is growing. Grains—including oats, wheat, and barley—are the hottest ecological crop, with oil-producing plants and legumes coming a close second.
