Care for War Veterans to be Improved

Published onsdag 10 februari 2010 kl 14.40

Is Sweden taking care of its former soldiers, injured in action on international assignments or facing psychological and other problems? The question has become topical with the latest death of two Swedish army officers serving in Afghanistan and the impact of the deaths on their families. A parliamentary report was presented to the government on how to deal with the issue two years ago. For one reason or another it was just put on the shelf. Now it's being dusted off to form the basis for a legislation to be presented to the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament.

The parliamentary committee which studied the issue was chaired by Allan Widman, an MP for the Liberal Party. He told Azariah Kiros that the country's failure to take care of its veterans could be blamed on the unbroken peace Sweden has enjoyed for two centuries.
