Kalla Strikes Gold For Sweden in Canada

Published måndag 15 februari 2010 kl 19.40

Charlotte Kalla gave Sweden its first medal in her Olympics debut in Vancouver on Monday—a gold in the 10 kilometer cross-crountry skiing event.

"It feels totally crazy," the 22-year-old told Swedish Television after her victory. "I feel a little confused. I tried to see it as a normal World Cup competition during the race, but it's going to take a long time for this to sink in."

Kalla took the lead just 1.3 kilometers into the race and held it until the finish line. Silver went to Kristina Smigun-Vähi of Estonia, and bronze to Marit Björgen of Norway, while fellow Swede Anna Haag came fourth.
