SR International’s own Amun Abdullahi Mohamed has been awarded the Publicist Club’s Prize for Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. The award is given in memory of Russian author and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaja, who was shot dead in Moscow in 2006.

“We thought naively that the fight for freedom of speech was won in Sweden. That was wrong. Amun Abdullahi Mohamed fights the battle with courage and great skill every working day," the prize committee wrote in its motivation.

Amun’s work at SR International has included a number of exposés in her native Somali which have later been broadcast by Swedish Radio News.

Amun will accept her award at a prize dinner in Stockholm on Monday night.
