Swedes Discover Genital Herpes Vaccine
A Swedish team of researchers may have found a vaccine against genital herpes, newspaper Göteborgs-Posten reports. The vaccine has already been tested successfully on mice, which became immune to the virus after undergoing a harmless infection.
The scientists at Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Hospital used a protein produced by the herpes virus itself to create the vaccine.
About half a billion people in the world have genital herpes, an infection that triples one’s risk of contracting HIV.
