Swedish Doctors to Leave East Congo

Published fredag 19 mars 2010 kl 10.29

The Swedish branch of "Doctors Without Borders" sharply condemns what it calls the serious violation of human rights and international law with the harassment and kidnapping of hospital patients in the Eastern Congo.

The organization says Congolese soldiers stormed into a hospital despite staff protests and violated the principle that everyone has a right to medical care even in conflict situations.

The organization is planning to remove its medical personnel from some areas in the region - where United Nations staff have already been withdrawn.
