Sweden Pushes Gripen Plane in Brazil
The Swedish government is making a second attempt to convince Brazil to buy its Gripen fighter jets. Defense Minister Sten Tolgfors will meet his Brazilian counterpart Nelson Jobim on Monday in hopes of encouraging him to shun French and American competitors in favor of the Saab-made jet.
The minister hastily joined a previously planned royal visit to the country to push his errand. The Swedish king and queen will meet president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Tuesday, and later participate in a conference promoting industrial and technological cooperation between the countries before flying back to Stockholm.
