Call for New Anti-Bribery Regulations
A government-commissioned inquiry has recommended that new laws be written to prevent bribery. Bo Svensson, who led the investigation, said that the current rules are deplorable.
Justice Minister Beatrice Ask says the government would welcome suggestions. "The regulations," she said, "have been difficult for many to interpret. It's extremely important that people know exactly what is allowed. I think that we can improve the legislation."
Svensson's report recommends clarifying the law by classifying bribery into several different categories. For example, one category would target the careless handling of money by companies who outsource work to agents, some of whom then pay cash backhanders.
