Bildt Weighs in on Iran Sanctions
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt says he's sceptical about the use of sanctions against Iran and its nuclear program. The United Nations Security Council voted on Wednesday to impose new sanctions.
Bildt says he doesn't think the sanctions are an effective way to change Iran's politics. Bildt wrote on his internet blog, "A way forward with Iran must be a way in which one step leads to the next. To believe that a decade of misstrust can be bridged by a few strokes of a pen is hardly realistic."
But, he added, Sweden and the other EU member states will follow the UN sanction guidelines, adding that he doubted anyone truly believes the sanctions will work.
