A concert in the southern Swedish city of Malmö by the controversial Jamaican reggae artist Beenie Man has been cancelled, due to protests on the social media site Facebook.

Homophobic lyrics in Beenie Man's songs have caused the storm here, with campaigners saying such lyrics shouldn't be accepted in Sweden, adding that the situation for gay rights in Jamaica is much worse.

Lyrics in his songs include lines such as "I'm dreaming of a new Jamaica, come to execute all the gays", according to the newspaper Stockholm City.

Concert organisers say they decided not to go ahead with the gig, as the dealing with the protests "took too much time".

Beenie Man has also seen his concerts in London cancelled due to his homophobic lyrics.
