The United Nation's appointee on sexual crimes in wartime, Sweden's Margot s Wallström, is visiting Congo Kinshasa in efforts to help start legal proceedings of those responsible for the new large-scale wave of rapes.

The Swede says the UN has witness reports from 500 women who were raped and the names of military commanders in charge of the men belonging to two guerrilla armies.

The UN has been highly criticized for its failure to provide sufficient protection for women in the civil-war torn region - despite the presence of UN peace keeping soldiers.
