Mourners Throwing Dead Relatives' Ash Off Ferry

Helsingör, better known as the home of Hamlet

Passengers have been throwing the ashes of their dead relatives overboard on the ferry between Swedish Helsingborg and Helsingör, without getting permission, and with the ash sometimes flying back onto fellow passengers, reports the local Helsingör Dagblad newspaper.

An employee told the paper he had seen ash and roses on the deck, where mourners hadn't paid attention to the wind direction.

Ferry owner Hand Froholdt told the paper he wasn't aware of the practice, but was open to getting the correct permits to allow it to go ahead under more organised forms.

"People are more than welcome to get in touch with us if they have requests such as this", he told the paper.
