Swedes at Pakistani Terror Camps

Published lördag 2 oktober 2010 kl 16.30
Increased security outside the Swedish parliament Friday

The Swedish police say there are people who have travelled from Sweden to Pakistan to take part in terrorist training camps.

Three Swedes were arrested in Pakistan last year, but were later released and returned to this country. Now Patrik Peter, press secretary of the security service of the Swedish police, Säpo, tells the TT news agency that there are Swedes in the area with terrorist links: “We believe that there are a handful of people who have travelled there to take part in training camps and in order to take part in illegal acts of violence”.

But Säpo refuses to comment on whether there is any connection with the announcement Friday that Sweden had been on an enhanced terrorist alert level since mid-September, with the threat level raised from level two to level three, the highest level ever here.

John Daniels of the military intelligence agency MUST told Swedish Radio News Friday “There are a number of people in a certain environment who have the intention and capacity to carry out terrorist attacks against Swedish targets.”
