Foreign Ministry Warns of European Terrorism Threat

Published måndag 4 oktober 2010 kl 16.00

The Swedish ministry of foreign affairs has issued a travel advisory within Europe due to an increased threat of terrorism, it says. The ministry is urging Swedes to be on alert.

On its website, the ministry warns that travellers should be on alert "in public places, in and around public buildings, at tourist attractions, on public transport, in shopping centers and in other crowded places."

The level of warning is not high enough for tourists to be able to cancel their trips and get their money back, however.

Sweden raised its terrorism threat level at home from low to elevated on Friday, but the country's secret police emphasised no immediate threat had been detected.

The assessment is based on intelligence indicating a shift in activities among certain groups in Sweden, judged to be targeted at Sweden.
