Suspect in Munch painting theft arrested

Published lördag 9 oktober 2010 kl 17.51

Police have arrested a 34-year-old man on Saturday after finding stolen paintings in his residence earlier in the week. He has been arrested on charges of handling stolen goods. Another man has been arrested in his absence, on suspicion of committing the robbery itself, reports news agency TT.

The paintings belong to the collection of an art museum in Malmö and include a work by Edvard Munch, worth over a million U.S. dollars.

Police discovered the paintings while searching the suspect's home in connection with a different crime: skimming money from credit cards.

The museum had not been aware that the artwork, which was believed to be in storage, was missing.
