Quiet asphalt too expensive

Published tisdag 12 oktober 2010 kl 11.58

Several counties that have used so called quiet asphalt to reduce traffic noise are now changing back to the regular asphalt, Swedish Radio news reports.

The reason for the change is that the quiet asphalt is expensive and the impact it has on keeping noise levels down is limited, according to Per Persson, an engineer in Helsingborg, south of Malmö.

“The cost for the special asphalt is double compared to regular asphalt and the service life is shorter. So with the recourses we have today this is the decision we have made.”
