Soldiers fired for refusing foreign service

Published torsdag 14 oktober 2010 kl 17.56

A total of 418 soldiers employed by the Swedish Armed Forces will be fired after refusing to sign the new contracts which include mandatory foreign service, news agency TT reports.

The new requirement from the government requiring all employees to agree to serve in a foreign country was criticised by the Officers Union but in the end the Armed Forces decided to fire all soldiers who didn't sign.

All 418 soldiers will leave their jobs on October 31, said Kristina Åstrand Bohman, at the Armed Forces headquarters.
