Opposition Wins Swedish Elections: Persson Resigns as Social Democrat Leader

The opposition center-right alliance has narrowly won the Swedish elections.

In one of the narrowest elections in years, the Conservative Moderate, Center, Liberal, and Christian Democrat parties just came out ahead of the ruling Social Democrats, and their Left and Green party allies.

In his concession speech, Göran Persson announced he will be resigning his position as leader of the Social Democrat Party.

Inger Arenander is commentator on domestic issues at Swedish Natonal Radio. She tells Azariah Kiros that the main reason for the victory by the Alliance was their success in highlighting issues which the electorate believed were of paramount importance:
