A traditional "Princesstårta"

Cakes bought from a bakery in the central city of Uppsala are being blamed for an outbreak of food poisoning which has killed one elderly person and made dozens of others sick.

They all ate ”Princesstårta”, a traditional sponge cake with marzipan on, many of them at a funeral wake. An 86 year old died and several children who ate the cake at a party have also become ill.

The virus is thought to be linked to the Winter Vomiting Disease and is spread by infected water and dirty hands.

The bakery has now been reported to the police and there are fears many other customers could also have been infected.
