Christer Fuglesang arrives at the Kennedy Space Center

At the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the countdown has begun for the next space shuttle mission, which will carry Sweden’s first astronaut, Christer Fuglesang.

The launch is scheduled for Thursday night local time in Florida.

After the shuttle docks at the International Space Station, during three spacewalks Christer Fuglesang and one of his crewmates will rewire the station’s eight year old electrical system with a permanent replacement.

Christer Fuglesang will also be using amateur radio to talk with a Swedish school class, the first time a Scandinavian school will be in contact with the International Space Station.
