Violent Game Importer Acquitted
The importer of a violent computer game has been found not guilty by a jury in the southern Swedish city of Helsingborg.
The game Postal 2 contains graphic portrayals of people and animals being killed. Depictions of extreme violence are regarded in Sweden as violations of free expression. The Swedish Chancellor of Justice had objected to 21 sequences in the game. These were played for the jury, including decapitations of police officers and the mass slaughter of demonstrators.
The defence played scenes from a number of violent movies which have been approved for showing in Sweden, arguing that games should be covered by the same yardstick.
