Fuglesang Completes First Space Walk

Sweden’s first astronaut, Christer Fuglesang, took part in a six hour space walk outside the International Space Station late Tuesday.

Together with his shuttle Discovery crewmate Robert Curbeam, Fuglesang added a new piece to the metal backbone of the station, clearing the way for a critical power rewiring later this week.

Fuglesang and Curbeam will be making two more space walks, to upgrade the International Space Station’s electrical system.

Back down on earth, Swedes are enjoying every minute of Fuglesang’s space odyssey. But for a long time it looked as if Sweden’s space man would never get his chance. Gaby Katz brings us this report:
