Government Sell-Off Confirmed

Sweden’s centre-right government said Thursday it will sell off stakes in six companies including telecom TeliaSonera AB, Nordic banking group Nordea AB and stock market operator OMX AB.

It did not offer a timeline of when and in which order the assets would be sold. The other companies were real estate group Vasakronan AB, residential mortgage company SBAB, and liquor group Vin & Sprit AB, the maker of Absolut vodka.

”The government has not decided when, or how, or in which order these companies will be sold,” Energy Minister Maud Olofsson said.

The government has total or partial ownership in nearly 60 companies. Its most valuable holdings are the nearly 20 percent it holds in Nordea and a 45.3 percent holding in TeliaSonera. It also owns 6.75 percent in OMX.

The four-party coalition that took power after winning Sept. 17 elections said before the vote it wanted to review state ownership in listed companies but Thursday was the first time it identified companies for sale.
