Swedish unions step up blockade campaigns

The National Mediation Office says it has recorded 135 blockades against companies so far this year, compared to 63 in the whole of last year.

The unions are using them as a weapon to get firms to sign collective agreements and during the past fortnight there has been a lot of media coverage about one such blockade, against a Salad Bar in Gothenburg.

The employer’s organisation the TransportGroup says the industrial action is being used too often and there should be rules in place to make sure the measure is not used disproportionately.
