Swedes detained during Copenhagen riot

Hundreds of demonstrators clashed with the police

27 Swedes were among the hundreds of people arrested by Danish Police after the violence on Saturday night.

The trouble started during a demonstration against the closure of a youth collective, and the police moved in to break up the protest when they saw many of those taking part were wearing masks.

Some of the protestors were also armed with metal bars and home-made bombs and officers described the violent scenes that broke out as being like a ”war zone”.

Around 300 arrests were made and it was reported that all of the 84 foreigners detained were kept in custody, at least overnight. A police inspector said the troublemakers ”certainly hadn’t come to Copenhagen to do their Christmas shopping”.
