Swedish Population Passes 9-Million Mark

Published onsdag 20 december 2006 kl 15.06

New statistics show that Sweden has passed the 9 million mark – by 83,000 mostly thanks to new immigrants and a boom in the birth rate.

After a few sluggish years, the number of refugees and immigrants coming to Sweden over the last year has jumped by 65% – many coming from Iraq.

Statistics experts had earlier claimed that Sweden had already hit the 9 million mark – but withdrew the claim when it was discovered that they failed to note that many refugees and immigrants who had come from such places as earlier dicttatorships of Greece and Chile had long gone home again – but failing to check-out statistically.
