Unwanted Refugee Children in Sweden

Published fredag 22 december 2006 kl 13.51

Swedish immigration authorities are sounding the larm over the growing number of young refugees coming to Sweden on their own – forced to stay over long periods in centers in the few areas willing to accept them.

Most local governments have ignored desperate pleas to receive the child refugees fleeing from war and conflict at home.

This has meant that the youngsters sometimes spend months instead of days in what are supposed to be temporary locations – where they are not getting the proper crisis and other medical treatment.

It also means that those who start going to school and make friends are once again ripped out of familiar surroundings.
