Foreign Minister Carl Bildt continues to be concerned over the situation in Somalia, and has condemned Ethiopia’s military actions.

In a statement he say’s ”It is extremely serious that Ethiopia is now conducting extensive military operations in Somalia. I urge Ethiopia to immediately withdraw its combat units from Somalia and the UIC to refrain from provocative military operations.”

The Foreign Minister added that ”All the parties must return to the political dialogue as soon as possible. This is the only way of preventing even greater suffering.”

Carl Bildt closed his statement by saying ”A war in Somalia that also draws in other countries will lead to considerable suffering for a population that has already endured so much, and will have serious consequences for the stability of the entire region.”
