Generous Foreign Millionaires Outrank Swedes

Published onsdag 3 januari 2007 kl 14.11

An international study of millionaires giving away large sums for charity show that while the trend is increasing in some countries – the rich Swedes are rather reluctant and falling behind.

The study shows that while Americans have earlier been famous for accumalating fortunes in the early part of their business lives only to give away fortunes later on, this practice is becoming more common among the British, French, Russians and others – with even a note of rivalry over the amount given away.

However, most Swedish millionaires seem to be vary wary – feeling that their high taxes are enough, that the state should take care of social needs, and that the lack of Swedish tax deductions for charity donations such as those in some other countries fails to give them the green light encourgament for philanthropy.
