Dairy Fat Not Dangerous

Published måndag 8 januari 2007 kl 11.34

A new study from Sweden’s Public Health Institute reveals that rural Swedes are more often overweight, and smoke more than their urban counterparts.

They also eat less fruit and vegetables, and suicide is more common among those who live in the countryside.

In medical news, researchers at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute report that fat in dairy products is less harmful than previously believed. After studying the eating habits of 20,000 women over a ten year period, the scientists say the women did not go up in weight as much as was expected from consuming milk and cheese with high fat levels.

They say the fat may, in fact, aid absorption of calcium.
