Speed Cameras Work

Published onsdag 10 januari 2007 kl 11.00

The newspaper “Svenska Dagbladet” reports that the first Swedish highway with speed cameras has seen the number of cars driving too fast reduced by 40 percent.

According to the highway authorities, the average speed on the 40 kilometer stretch of road has gone down by 8 percent since the 10 cameras went up. They say the reduction continued even after motorists got used to the cameras being there.

Last year the National Road Administration put up 700 speed cameras on 106 highways and roads where speeding has been a problem.
