Somali Official Visits Sweden

Sheik Sharif Hassan Aden

As fighting continues in parts of Somalia, the speaker of the troubled country’s parliament arrived in Stockholm Monday evening for a short visit.

Sweden is playing an active role in the peace process, along with other European countries. The speaker, Sheik Sharif Hassan Aden, has reportedly strongly disagreed with the interim government on a number of issues, including the invitation to Ethiopia for military help to drive out the Islamists.

Swedish Radio News says his visit to Brussels earlier Monday and then in Stockholm can be seen as an attempt to find support for his positions. The Swedish foreign ministry has commented that it is good to meet all sides in the conflict.
