Bildt Deplores Dink Killing

Hrant Dink.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has expressed deep dismay over the murder of Turkish Armenian journalist Hrant Dink in Istanbul.

In a press release, Bildt says Turkey has lost a leading social critic and a driving force in the process of reform. The Swedish foreign minister also welcomed the statement by Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan that the authorities would do their utmost to bring the guilty party to justice.

A Turkish teenager has since confessed to the murder.

Bildt has also welcomed the results of the Serbian elections as a victory for the democratic parties. A former international envoy in the Balkans, Bildt tells the TT news agency, however, that since the radical and socialist parties did better than expected, a complicated process of coalition building remains.
