Spaceport Sweden Ready For Lift-Off

Published fredag 26 januari 2007 kl 13.35

Spaceport Sweden was officially launched above the arctic circle in Kiruna today (Friday) with high hopes of the first commercial space flight blasting off from there in 2012.

At the inaugeration at Kiruna airport, an agreement was signed between Spaceport Sweden, which is made up of a handful of kiruna based organizations, and Virgin Galactic, the world’s first commercial space line that offers the general public, with plenty of money to spare, the opportunity to become astronauts.

The agreement allows the parties to perform an initial study on the feasibilty for launching the Galactic Spaceships from Spaceport Sweden. Already the first Swede has signed up for a flight from Spaceport Sweden, not Christer Fugelsang but Bengt Söderqvist . who’s 68 years old.
