Restoring Stockholm’s Congestion Charges

Published tisdag 30 januari 2007 kl 11.50

A government commissioned report is proposing that Stockholm’s congestion charges be restored from the first of July.

The center-right government parties had campaigned before last year’s elections on dismantling the controversial system. They reversed their position after getting into office, with the key change that the tolls would finance highway and road construction.

The new report recommends a number of changes from the previous system, including a discontinuation of the vehicle-mounted transponders. It also calls on the government to provide more funds for public transportation.
