Did State Secretary Lie?

Lars Danielsson testifying

The Swedish television channel TV8 reports that recently recovered computer logs reveal that then-State Secretary Lars Danielsson never received an e-mail warning about the repercussions of the Asian tsunami.

Danielsson has testified that after he read the message from the head of the defence intelligence agency warning that there were 20,000 Swedes in the disaster area, he forwarded it to Prime Minister Göran Persson and then continued working on the crisis.

The revelation follows the head of the Tsunami disaster commission going through the back-up logs. He’s called on the government to reconvene the commission to investigate Danielsson’s actions.

During talks Wednesday afternoon, representatives from all of the political parties in parliament agreed to reconvene the commission.
