World Alpine Championships Delayed
Stormy weather prevented the start of the Alpine Skiing World Champions in Åre, Sweden, during the weekend.
The men’s and women’s Super-G races were postponed because of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and warm temperatures that made the lower part of the course dangerously soft.
The postponements meant the men and women will each have only two official practice runs instead of three. Rules require at least one downhill training session ahead of a race for safety reasons.
In other sports news, Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson won the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday. The world number 14 fired a final round 68 that gave him a 19 under par aggregate of 269 and a one stroke victory over three time champion Ernie Els.
