Gay Group Fails to Gain UN NGO Status

Published måndag 5 februari 2007 kl 11.41

A United Nations committee has deferred the application of a Swedish homosexual rights group seeking consultative status at the world body.

Besides putting the application from the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights on hold, the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations also rejected one from a similar group from Canada.

Accreditation, which has been given to more than 2000 groups around the world, enables them to take part in U.N. conferences and to offer advice in their field of expertise.
