Bildt Welcomes Palestinian Unity Government Deal
Foreign Minsiter Carl Bildt says he welcomes the historic deal made by rival Palestinian factions aimed at ending lethal infighting and winning back Western aid.
The document, heralded as the start of a ”new era,” was signed in Mecca late Thursday by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, who heads the Fatah party, and the exiled leader of the ruling Islamist
Hamas movement, Khaled Meshaal, in the presence of Saudi host King Abdullah.
Bildt also said he was pleased with the Saudi initiative, and is waiting to see a concrete plan on how the unity government works before he forms a more detailed opinion.
