Lindh Murderer Stays in Sweden

Published tisdag 15 maj 2007 kl 13.10
Mijailo Mijailovic

The man who stabbed to death Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh in a Stockholm department store four years ago has withdrawn his appeal to serve the rest of his life sentence in Serbia.

Mijailo Mijailovic was born in Sweden, but his parents are Serbian, and he asked to be transferred there in 2005, saying he’d received threats in prison here.

But his application was rejected in February after officials in Belgrade couldn’t give Sweden any guarantees about how long he’d be kept behind bars in the Balkan country.

His lawyer says they are now withdrawing the appeal as Mijailovic doesn’t think he has any chance of winning it.
