Ethiopian Captives Say They Were Tortured

Published tisdag 22 maj 2007 kl 13.00

The three Swedes released after five months’ detention in Ethiopia have claimed they were tortured.

Speaking through their lawyer, the men, who were suspected of having links to Islamic extremists in Somalia, also say they were kept in cages and handcuffed for long periods while in jail.

After Swedish diplomatic pressure, the men were unexpectedly released and returned to Sweden over the weekend. Two hold Swedish citizenship, the third has permanent residence in this country.
