Later Motherhood in Stockholm

Published onsdag 23 maj 2007 kl 12.59

A new report indicates that women in Stockholm are delaying motherhood for longer and longer.

According to data published by Statistics Sweden, the number of women in greater Stockholm having children over the age of 40, has jumped 39 percent in the past five years.

Affluent suburbs Danderyd and Lidingö lead the way for senior mums, where 12.5 percent and 11 percent respectively of mothers are over 40.

Statistics Sweden puts the trend down to growing numbers of women wanting to focus on their careers before starting a family.
