Missing Swede Was Not Missing

Published torsdag 26 juli 2007 kl 12.21

Swedish Radio News reports that the 20-year-old Swedish man feared arrested in Ethiopia since July 1 has emerged unharmed.

Relatives the man was due to visit in Ethiopia had said they feared the man had been arrested by Ethiopian authorities when the plane he was due to be on, touched down in Addis Ababa.

According to the man’s lawyer, Björn Hurtig, the man called Hurtig himself, saying he was safe and well, and that he had never been in Ethiopia.

The man told Hurtig that he had simply missed his connecting flight from Frankfurt to Ethiopia, and since then had stayed in Germany. His lawyer added that the man was ”a little suprised” by all the attention his believed arrest had attracted in Sweden.

Hurtig said he did not ask why the man had not thought to contact his family earlier to say he was safe and well.
