Published måndag 30 juli 2007 kl 12.14

The 118 vessels competing in the Tall Ships Races, leave Stockholm Monday, in preparation for the last leg of the race from Sandhamn, on the edge of the Stockholm archepeligo, to Szczecin in Poland.

Now in its 51st year, the event brings together some of the biggest sailing ships in the world. This year the event is being held between four Baltic ports, with at least half of the ships’ crew members aged between 15 and 25.

The ships left Århus in Denmark on July 9th, and headed for Kotka in Finland. They arrived in Stockholm on Friday, where the city hosted a festival attracting thousands to mark the event.

The race is due to end in Szczecin between August 4 and 7.
