Congestion Charges Re-introduced

Published onsdag 1 augusti 2007 kl 12.21

At 6:30 Wednesday morning congestion charges were once again introduced to the Stockholm.

The tolls will now be a permanent fixture on roads leading in and out of the capital, and unlike last year’s test period taxis and the transportation service for the disabled will also have to pay the charge.

Other changes from the test period include the introduction of tax deductions by companies and commuters. Environmentally friendly cars and vehicles registered in foreign countries, will also be exempt from the congestion charges.

According to a spokesperson for the Swedish Road Administration, the first ten minutes Wednesday morning went well. The maximum daily charge is 60 kronor, a little over 8 US dollars.
