Bergman Honored in Venice, Stamps
The prestigious Venice International Film Festival has announced it will be honoring the Swedish film and theatre director Ingmar Bergman, who died earlier this week.
The festival, now in its 64th year, starts at the end of August, and although organisers have not decided what form their tribute will take, they have released a statement confirming the Swede will be honored. Bergman won a Silver Lion award at the festival in 1959, with his film ”The Magician”.
This autumn’s Stockholm Film Festival has already been dedicated to Bergman, and the Swedish Post Office say it will pay its own tribute to the director by featuring him on a set of postage stamps. No date has been set for the release of the stamps.
