Crackdown on Outdoor Drinking

Published fredag 3 augusti 2007 kl 11.25

Police are cracking down on those people who consume alcohol outdoors, where it is generally not permitted in Sweden.

Those who are caught with an open alcoholic beverage can be fined up to around 74 US dollars, as well as having the drink emptied on the spot.

Alcoholic beverages found on minors under the age of 18 are emptied as well, and their parents are contacted.

According to Scott Goodwin of the Växjö Police, those parents who do not pick up their children who have been caught drinking outdoors, can themselves be fined.
