Concern Over Cinema Monopoly
There are growing concerns over the takeover of the bankrupt Astoria cinema chain, the second biggest in the country.
The Svenska Bio group of film theaters, half-owned by the Swedish Film Industry company (SF), has taken over Astoria’s screens in a move that some fear could monopolise the market.
The Swedish Film Institute’s Charlotta Denward believes the takeover would allow SF to dictate what films cinemagoers get to see across the entire country.
The Astoria chain went into liquidation earlier this year.
