Talks Between OMX and Bourse Dubai

Published tisdag 14 augusti 2007 kl 12.24

Talks have taken place in Stockholm between representatives of the Nordic and Baltic stock exchange, OMX, and management of the Dubai exchange, known as Bourse Dubai.

A spokesperson for OMX refused to say what was discussed at the meeting, but it is widely believed Bourse Dubai has made an offer for a quarter of OMX’s shares.

A stake of this size would almost certainly scupper the New York exchange Nasdaq’s plan to merge with OMX. Nasdaq officials have already asked OMX shareholders to ignore the Bourse Dubai offer, and they say they remain fully committed to buying 100 per cent of shares in OMX.

The Swedish government, currently the second-largest shareholder in OMX, met with Bourse Dubai representatives, and an adviser stated that no formal bid had been made.
